After nearly four decades as Botton co-workers, our friends Jeff and Jane Balls are exchanging the green slopes of Danby Dale for a small market town in Somerset. Please join us in wishing them well.
They met, married and raised their family in Botton, and have been true pillars of the community.
But now, for Jane and Jeff, Somerset beckons – and the chance it offers them to live nearer to their children, and be just up the road from their son Andrew, his wife and three young grandchildren. ‘It’s a sensible time to move’, says Jeff, ‘and being near the grandchildren and seeing them grow up will be wonderful.’
Nurturing the flame
As well as running a large extended family style Camphill household, Jane helped nurture the flame of rewarding, mutually-beneficial work during her years as chair of the Botton Production Group. During this time she also played a major role in the recruitment of co-workers from the UK and from all over the world.
And in addition to running the Press, Jeff was, as a director and trustee of the Camphill Village Trust, involved in so many ways with raising funds to develop Botton Village and its sister communities. We will miss his wisdom (and wit) enormously.
And so, with this issue of Camphill Family Life you will find Jeff’s last letter to you on behalf of us all. From this autumn Andy Paton will bring you the latest news and needs of our communities. Andy lived in The Croft community in Malton for many years and now continues his involvement principally in fundraising and communications, and is very much looking forward to saying hello in September.
In the meantime, we hope you will join with us in wishing Jeff and Jane every happiness in their new life and the years to come.
