Green shoots and photo shoots

Carl and Chris are good buddies who’ve been brought together by our Berith and Camphill Partnership community and a shared love of gardening and photography.

They met when Chris began to volunteer for a few days a week at the community’s large organic plot, Ashfield Gardens, on the outskirts of Stourbridge. Since then, he and Carl, who’s been a resident of the community and a keen Ashfield gardener for some years, have become firm friends.

'We work together'

Carl has his own plot at Ashfield, which Chris supports him to tend: ‘We work together’, Carl explains. This year they’re growing fruit and vegetables including tomatoes and courgettes. ‘I’ve learned a lot about gardening since coming here’, says Chris.

In turn, Carl enjoys helping Chris to keep a visual diary of pictures taken at Ashfield throughout the seasons; they’re both keen on wildlife and the wonders of the natural world.

Sunny times

The two are self-taught photographers, though you’d never guess that from leafing through the stunning diary of pictures, capturing glorious moments in the garden throughout the year.

And the many lighthearted times that Chris has caught on camera, show how much fun it is to be part of Ashfield Gardens – a place that brings people from different walks of life together, to work, learn and grow, and nurture each other’s abilities.
