From time to time we gather together to look at our lives in Camphill. These conferences give us precious time away from our daily routines. They help us reflect on what’s important to us, share our aspirations and shape our communities and futures. They’re also joyful events, full of hellos and meeting friends old and new.
Carolyn was among those who journeyed from The Croft in North Yorkshire to attend our most recent conference, in Coventry. ‘It was very good’, she says. ‘I saw lots of people I knew from Larchfield, Botton and other places.’
The theme was ‘Our Lives’ – and as an older resident, Carolyn chose to join a group that looked at how life changes as we age. ‘We looked at the good sides of getting older as well as the things we have to let go’, says Gabi, who was also there.
By capturing their thoughts on hand-shaped ‘leaves’, and placing them on a sculpture of a tree, the group created a beautiful symbol of how our lives change as we age, but also, importantly, the gifts we keep and give to others around us.
Groups looking at Biography and Art and Creative Writing made inspirational displays too. And there was much fun and laughter, with ceilidh dancing late into the night, a visit from a theatre company and a trip to Coventry cathedral.
‘I loved the stained glass windows’, says Carolyn.
