Your generosity has brought about a wonderful development at Camphill St Albans: at last, the community has a building in which to meet, socialise, work, enjoy activities and celebrate.
Gifts from kind friends like you helped to demolish the previous building, which was cold, cramped and almost useless, and construct the new Michaelmas Hall in its place.
With a lovely big room on one side for activities and much-needed office space on the other – and a great location, right at the back of two of the community's houses – it's set to become the beating heart of the community.
Full of activity
An excited crowd of community members, family, staff, volunteers and friends gathered for the official opening.
After a delicious buffet lunch prepared by the café team, the red ribbon was cut and the St Albans singing group entertained everyone with a joyful performance of On Top of the World, Consider Yourself and Right Said Fred.
'The old building had been an ice cream factory, and they took that down, and rebuilt the new Hall', explains choir member Ruth. 'Now there’s lots of activities going on.'
'It's better than the old one', says Alex. 'It's spacious and it's nice and warm. There's space for discos, plays, projects, all kinds of things. And singing group, on Fridays. I love singing. We choose two songs each and sing them together. Helen is the choir teacher.'
'We have a really good time', Ruth agrees. 'We have a laugh and a chat.'
Our warmest thanks go to all our friends who have ushered in a new era for Camphill St Albans by generously supporting this project.
