Standing under an archway woven from willow branches, surrounded by the smiling faces of their friends and family, earlier this year Tom and Marina from Grange Village made a commitment to love and care for each other forever.
‘It was a bit like a wedding,’ Marina says, describing the commitment celebration. ‘We stood up and said our promises to each other and made our dreams come true.’
Sharing the joy
Tom and Marina are not the first couple to have a commitment celebration in the beautiful Tourmaline Hall at Grange Village. It’s gradually becoming a tradition and the whole community turned out in their best clothes to share Tom and Marina’s happy day.
‘We have been together for 11 years and we want to spend the rest of our lives together,’ Tom said. ‘We celebrated with cake and champagne. My favourite part was the Scottish dancing with a live band.
I wore a colourful waistcoat covered in parrots, which one of my mum’s friends made for me and Marina’s sister made all the decorations.’
Tom and Marina, who are both animal lovers, seemed to have nature on their side; the sun shone brightly and even the chickens seemed to know it was a special day, laying a bumper batch of eggs.
